A) He could pass a ball with a degree of accuracy.
(NOTHING compared with the mastery of a Glenn Hoddle or THE supreme master - Matt le Tissier.
B) He had a half-decent work-rate - MOST of which he used simply running about - keeping himself at least 5 metres from opposition players - so as to be able to RECEIVE passes - and then MAKE passes.
In practice - about 70% of his passes were SQUARE, pointless passes - reminiscent of the equally OVER-RATED Butch Wilkins - who did for us in Mexico.
WHEN going INTO the mix - Good Old Scholsey (ENGLAND regular) got away with YELLOW cards - when he most often deserved REDS.
In his latter playing days - SIR Axle Fungicide, fearing loss of points, would bring on Good Old Scholesy - to rough up stern defenders with his INFAMOUS late tackles.
NASTY, mean-minded, AVERAGE footballing Little **** - I must agree he WAS over-rated.
Massively so.
; ))
I seriously doubt the Liverpool trolls actually watched the game back then. Most of these trolls have only Youtube videos as evidence of a player's worth. Many of these Liverpool 'fans' don't even know their OWN players.
I'll talk the Youtube language to you. ""what an unbelievable goal by Paul Scholes, legendary strike"?"...His strike against Barca in 2008 in the semi-final of the CL (search it up).
"Have you ever seen him dance past 5 or 6 defenders like Messi? No"....He was a central midfielder. How many central midfielders do you see doing that ??. Do you even know the difference between attacking midfielders, DL PMs and defensive midfielders ??.
"Have you ever seen him pull off inch perfect 60 yard passes on a constant basis? No."......Is it our fault you probably didn't even watch the game back when he played ??. Stop with your BS.
Yes VERY overrated. People only rate him because of the plaudits he has received from MUCH better players like Zidane and Xavi. Funny thing is that these two players rate Scholes highly, but in reality he isn't fit to lick their boots! People are quick to jump on the bandwagon because the great players have praised him. LOL like their opinions are fact. Zidane called him "complete" which is total and utter BS. How can a midfielder who cant tackle to save his life be considered "complete"? Noone wants to question the great Zidane though so they all just follow along like the little mindless sheep they are! Whats even funnier is that NOONE rated scholes before all this malarkey, infact people were calling for him to be dropped from the England squad, but after these players praised him he is all of a sudden a legend . LOL GTFO people!
Great goals by Scholes: against Bradford in 2000. Against Mexico in 2001. And not to mention the hat trick at St James Park in 2003.
He's overrated to the f*cking core mate it's not even funny. Man utd fans make him out to see some sort of football god on par with Zidane for reasons unknown. Yes... I saw Scholes play for many years, and I never once noticed him on the pitch! He didn't do anything that stood out. He failed at taking set pieces, and he failed at creating, he was just extremely safe in possession and that was about it, however he was tactically superior to most midfielders in the game... But he couldn't even tackle to save his life. But he was very important to man utd don't get me wrong. He contributed to most of the fergie time goals inderectly. But Yes I agree. he's probably one of the most overrated midfielders of all time, he lost most of his real attacking ability in the mid years of his career. He was good but not even on Pirlo's class imo. I don't doubt his ability, but he's overrated imo, made out to be a lot better than he truly was.
Stevie G >>>> Crap Scholes
Scholes was a talented winger in his younger days and he scored some nice goals.
Because he's an inspiration to ugly people.
you are absolutely full of the brown smelly stuff pal!!!! okay scholes is a midfield maestro m8, he could play box-to-box football as good as anyone ever did, i think people forget that scholes was a very rare breed in just how complete he was as a footballer, he did everything as good as anyone else minus the tackling because he was awful at tackling, more like really late leg braking tackles that fergie told him to work on but it just was'nt ever there, so what when more often than not he had keane to do the defensive duties anyway?? scholes was more of a bomb forward type midfielder who rarely had to tackle cuz keane would always win the ball for him. but scholes's best attributes were razor sharp long balls with the vision and range that beckham had all the credit for, he was a master header of the ball, probably scored just as many goals with his head as his feet n if you ever saw his matches you would know that you clown, he had such accurate shooting ability combined with power and placement he was often used as a striker anyway, more so in his earlier days until fergie saw a dream midfield partnership in him n keane, but other than his poor ability to tackle i say your not on this planet with this question at all pal.
He's not. He was a world class player for such a long long time. The top people in football admire Scholes.
Have you ever heard a commentator go "what an unbelievable goal by Paul Scholes, legendary strike"? No me neither.
Have you ever seen him dance past 5 or 6 defenders like Messi? No. Have you ever seen him pull off inch perfect 60 yard passes on a constant basis? No.
Was he a tough crunching hard tackling defensive mid? No. Was he a Juninho-like set piece taker? No. Was he good in the air or a good finisher? No.
So wtf was Paul Scholes good at? Passing square balls?
&264 kyle beckerman should replace&264 him
That's why many top names in football rate him so highly. Overrated lmao stfu
He's overrated
You may be in the minority here. Scholes wasn't brilliant at any one thing as you have described others. He was a good all rounder. A reliable defender who did actually score some excellent goals from range. One thing is certain if he was as useless as you imply he wouldn't have made as many appearances for Man U as he did. Over 700 in case you didn't know.
