I noticed that the previous responses blame Milan's stupidity on the situation of the entire league. That's just not the case. Juventus, Napoli, Roma, and Fiorentina have all managed to do well with very little cash. How did they do this? They bought and sold players INTELLIGENTLY.
Milan, unfortunately, has never been intelligent (as a fan of many years, I have learned this). In the Berlusconi era, they have bought who they pleased by throwing wads of money at them. Now, there is no money. Milan could just buy younger, less well-known players, but they are just too stupid. That is why Milan wants Torres as Balotelli's replacement.
Welcome to the current state of italian football. Italy has done itself no favours here. For a start for years Italian football for quality was superb but for entertainment it was crap. Italy could never market itself to the asian markets or north american because there was no entertainment factor. This is where Barcelona, Real, The EPL make their money now and they do it largely on entertaining football.
The other key issue with all italian clubs, they were so late to the game in capitalising on the globalisation of the game. The Big clubs, Barca, Real, Man United, Chelsea (along with a lot of others these are the first that came to mind), hell even Newcastle United made an attempt early to get into the Asian and north american markets and have made a fortune (well not in Newcastle's case but you get my point). The money is not there anymore. Juventus were the one thing keeping Italian football interesting and strong as they were spending between 2000-2006 but once they got relegated, Italian footballs most marketable asset was gone. The president of Milan is rich but he cannot afford to bankroll enough to keep Milan on top so they suffered like every other italian team.
It can be fixed but the clubs need to invest a lot in infrastructure. Most italian clubs do not own their own grounds so that would be a start. Average attendances are shocking for a top league and their global presence for a team with the history of milan is crap...
Are you surprised? It's the serie A, so many clubs have a rep and history of things like owners filing bankruptcy, racism, over priced memberships to attend games so they have such low attendance for their stadium's capacity. They may have figured it wouldn't matter, but I can't say I'm the least bit surprise solid decisions hardly ever seem to be made in Serie A
i agree ac milan is horrible and also hired no experience manager, this is a complete joke, mario balotelli was their best player, who do they have now???
always selling good *** players and buying the crapiest players out there. They Need a new president or owner!
