Last season, the problems were compounded: the central midfield had become hopelessly inadequate, the defence was starting to show frailties, the wings were inconsistent, and management was a total disaster.
So what did we do about it?
..... we brought in Juan Mata (an astute purchase 8/10 marks for initiative) and sacked the manager (10/10 marks for implementing the bleeding obvious); appointed LvGaal (sound judgement, and possibly the best option available at that time);
..... and then proceeded to get rid of virtually the whole .....
(in recent times)
......first line choice in defence; while signing one promising defender, who was promptly told he was too unfit, pushed (in training) beyond what anyone in their right mind would expect of a teenager, and predictably crocked up for a critical period of relatively easy opening fixtures.
Herrera (9/10 points for initiative) was brought in to patch over the obvious fiasco in midfield: Carrick inconsistent, inexplicably lacking vision or initiative and mysteriously injured; Giggs put out to grass; Fellaini - never showed any potential beyond our worst expectations;
Anderson, Nani, Cleverley: not really showing any convincing signs of maturing into the sort of player United have become accustomed to employing.
Wingers already inconsistent, now being expected to run themselves into the ground ploughing up and down the length of the field to do a job in defence that they are not capable of doing, (and probably only attempting to do, to preserve their desirable jobs and ludicrously inflated wages).
Still, we can expect to rely on our world renowned attack:
..... including RvPersie, who is currently not match fit, due to extended leave of absence earned by doing a few extra hours of work during his sunny holiday in Brazil a couple of months ago.
Meanwhile, we have Woodward faffing about like Brian Rix in a 1960s Ealing comedy, and van Gall asserting that he needs a few months to think about it and assess whether the squad is good enough.
Strewth, the whole damned world can see it is not good enough, and it is rapidly getting worse.
Glazers:
..... put your money where your mouth is and sort this mess out, or sell up and let someone who has more than half a clue how to manage an Internationally renowned Commercial enterprise,
as though it was something a bit more important than a game of Monopoly.
putting the midfield to one side, that certainly isn't united's problem anymore because we have a much greater problem now in our defence, no replacement for vidic one of uniteds best ever defenders and nothing for rio either, how can that just happpen?? if rooney and van persie left we would need strikers right?? 2 of united's best ever defenders have left and not been replaced, this is a massive down fall from last season because now more than ever we need center backs because of the system van gaal uses, 3 center backs, have united even got 3 center backs, funny liverpool boast 6 international center backs, united struggle to find more than 3, and none are good enough to play for united, thought last season was bad??? buy some defenders van gaal or suffer the consequences of a worse finish than 7th you pleb!!!
I think one centre back will be fine, but he has to have top level experience.
Its all paper talk at the moment, which is annoying, because its clear we need new additions.
Look at our squad compared to the likes of Chelsea FC and Manchester City.
Its ridiculous and nowhere near good enough.
Van Gaal only won one of his first four games against Bayern Munich and still won the Bundesliga, but I doubt we'll win the title and I'd be happy with a top three finish.
Utd have some of the best central backs on the earth, Philiph Jones is brilliant, Evans has CL exerience, and Christopher Smalling is certainly not small in fact I recall my godfather saying he wasn't small buy to an extent sufficiently big.
You know what they say, A ledger is flood.
Ed Woodward is mostly to blame for this mess.
