Most likely Title IX did them in. Many colleges have dropped several men's sports because the law requires "equal" scholarships for male and female athletes, and since football uses so many that the only way they can get an equal number for females is to do away with men's programs, Many colleges no longer have a men's track team, I know several that dropped baseball, golf, and track, and picked up women's equestrian and crew, probably two of the least watched sports in college, but they have lots of female scholarships.

Because nobody gives a damn about soccer so the program will be losing money
