Political reasons. Madrid wants to be anti-Mourinho and cleanse itself of him. the only player that Mourinho bought and was hand picked by him was Lopez. Everyone else disliked him, with the exception of Varane (but he is a young talent).

But we wanted a new GK, a younger one. Neuer leaving Bayern is highly improbable, but Navas was the other stand out keeper and the cheapest. We needed to let 2 of our then current keepers go: Casillas, Lopez, Fernandez. We haven't won anything with Lopez as starting GK, we've won everything with Casillas, Fernandez is too old to be 3rd choice and Casillas is our longest serving player, he means alot like how Raul did.

Diego was the rightful #1 over Casillas. Casillas b!tched to Perez and demanded Lopez to be sold .

Digo Lopez came as a replacement for at that time injured Casillas, but Mourinho seemed to prefer him over Casillas and thus Iker was orced to stay in the bench. Now Casillas has finally regained his well deserved place in the team.
