To be on the US MNT or WNT, one must first get the attention of the coaches. The coaches periodically name players to the pool (which is a list) of those who will be invited to national team training camps. Training camps are held prior to matches or tournaments, and the players for that match/tournament are chosen from those invited to the camp.
To be in the MNT pool, one would need to be a professional player. For the WNT, one would need to be a professional, or an outstanding player at an NCAA university.
You first need to play for a professional team. You don't apply to play for the national team, you are picked to play from a professional team.
You have to play professionally first which is very hard. So you should practice first and become very good.
