What does Hail Hail mean?

Hail". It is the singular imperative form of the verb avēre, which meant "to be well"; thus one could translate it literally as "be well"..

In ancient Rome they used it to greet the Caesar or other authorities as we would to call Ally a fat wee coont. Captives and criminals fated to die fighting addressed Caesar with the words Ave Caesar! Morituri te salutant! ("Hail, Caesar! Those who are about to die salute you!")

Been around for a while, what about follow follow, I wonder where that came from...
