Soccer Tryouts Help and Cleats Help (High School)?

Posted at: 2014-10-08
I have never played for a team and in 2 weeks i will play for my school for the first time. I have trained for 9 months and i have been practicing with various people, i learned that

Conditioning is VERY IMPORTANT

Eat Right

Keep your head in the game

Focus on the game

Now for drill i recommend running 2-3 miles and do a good lap dribbling the ball (ALWAYS STRETCH)

Then set up rocks, shoes, bags or if you have some cones and dribble between them.

Work on passing with someone, and if your alone find a wall and keep on passing to it and aim for a specific area at a time

Start shooting move around, move around, get farther.

Work on receiving the ball such as if someone passed it to you learn how to receive it without stopping or if the ball comes to you from the air learn to contain it.

*CLEATS*

For defenders i recommend Adidas Nitrocharge 2.0 ( i like the world cup ones ) and Nike Tiempo as they are amazing for us defenders

Buy Cleats that fit just right and you should be good but make sure to tie your laces extra hard.

Cleats should feel easy and should feel comfortable.

Mate You will make it if you follow these drills and master them as they are essential i got into soccer 9 months ago and its amazing and fun and its my first time playing for a team so i know in advance i must give it all i can to make the team and try not to be nervous what so ever keep calm and focus because coaches will most likely tell you are nervous and wont let you join. RUN EVERYDAY and time yourself and try to beat it each time and you will notice you are getting faster. Once the season starts eat healthy keep yourself in shape dont stop drilling and always practice on your own not just at school. Keep your grades up and make sure Soccer doesn't interfere with your school work, great players always make sure to have great grades. dont become fancy and start ball hogging, pass to your teammates all 11 of you make 1 and working together will increase your chance of winning. Good sportsmanship is always a good thing and if you notice one of your teammates isnt focusing yell at him and make sure your team is in proper shape dont leave your team hanging. Always help your teammates succeed. These make up a good player and if you can do this you might make it to the pros.

Sorry for the long stuff its all the stuff i have learned in the past 9 months from various people and im glad to learn such knowledge and i hope you learn as well and share it on. Remember there is no I in Team. Good luck on tryouts man im hoping i make it to.

Okay first of all don't worry you will do great! Coaches mostly look for good effort.

You can expect a lot of drills that will focus on not only the player individually but how you work with others on the team. My tryouts consisted of quite a lot of running to see how fast we were and who was in shape. We played 8v8 on half fields to goals and many other possession based drills and even some 1v1s and 2v3s. You can practice your form for shooting toe down heel up knee over the ball. Really work on your weak foot by passing the ball against the wall with it receiving a touch to the side and passing back this will help you a lot. If you take 15-20 min everyday just getting touches on the ball your skill will grow tremendously. You do need shin guards for tryouts. If you don't have any and don't want to buy some before you find out if you made it I would borrow some from a friend, same with the cleats. Nike cleats are my personal favorite at the moment with my favorite cleat being the tiempos. They should be about the same size as your sneaker size but you want them just a tad bigger in the toe a little but not much. They should be about just right a little bit tight but not too tight. You will basically know when they feel right everyone has their own preference.

Most high school coaches in the US select their team based primarily on physical fitness. They use timed 2 mile runs and wind sprints to cull down the players trying out. Unhappily, skill and potential are only secondary considerations. Consequently, its important to be in top physical shape prior to the start of try outs.

Skill wise, its important not to spend very much time practicing ball tricks and juggling. The reason is because they are not match skills. No runs up the field in a game while juggling the ball. Dribbling, passing, shooting, trapping, and other game skills should be practiced.

OK so I am currently a Junior at my High School and I have decided to tryout for the soccer team. We only have a Varsity team and no JV team so if you don't make it, you're gone. I can skill pretty well (I can execute mesomegs, roulettes, spins, chops, rainbows, etc. decently) and my friends acknowledge me as the skiller of our group. I can pass pretty accurately, but my problem is shooting, pace, and weak foot. I am planning to tryout as a CDM. Now, my tryouts are at the end of October so I have plenty of time to practice.

What can I expect to happen?

What was your tryouts like?

What drills might I see at tryouts?

What drills can I practice in to improve myself?

Do I need shinguards when I tryout? Thank you in advance.

CLEATS HELP:

OK, so I don't know how cleats work, so to start off:

What brands are good to buy?

What are the top brands (Like in basketball, everyone likes to buy Nike LeBrons)?

What size should I buy? In sneakers, I'm a 10.5.

How should the cleats feel?

Should they be tight, just right, or kinda loose?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I am really nervous. Thanks in advance :)
