I've always thought that players in the UK, especially England and even more so since the Premier LEague was founded, are too 'comfortable' with their lot and lose agreat deal of desire and ambition by staying intheir homeland.
This World Cup has proved that teams from South America, Africa and even the USA, have a hunger about them not matched by England. Most of the top players in the UK are all with big clubs, making more money than any of us will see in a lifetime, put on a pedestal by fans and media alike and fell they have little to prove.
Good luck to Ryan, may many more follow him and get the experience and desire that eludes them at home.
Let's not pretend Celtic have definitely missed out on a player that is certain to be a superstar. Gould was poor for the majority of last season, he was outshone by other united players, particularily Armstrong who I would like to see Celtic making a move for.
Apart from the odd wanyama?
Virgil
Forster
Ambrose
Mathews
Lustig
Ledley
Hooper
Johanson
Biton
Izzy
Wilson
All these non Scottish players are rubbish are they?.....don't start that drivel ffs.
Dunno, I don't see it as a lack of ambition to stay with a club till they hit their 20's at least, more often than not a top Scottish footballer in our eyes heads of to the championship and premiership of English football never to be heard of again, so can only hope if he goes to Sporting that he will get played and not fester on the bench before becoming another Kevin Thomson, Danny Wilson, David Goodwillie etc
im quite glad hes gone to sporting to be honest T too many scottish players lack ambition these days. kaffos spot on in thats its great for the lads development to be going to the portugese league he ll come back a much better player which is only gonna be good for the national team...wish more of our young talent would do likewise instead of being so insular and signing to a scottish team just cause their mum n dad support them.
Yes its a sad incitement of what goes on in Scottish football, still look on the bright side, the gers are bringing in loads of elderly Scottish talent and some not so Scottish with Zaliukas on his way...
Personally I would encourage any young Scottish player to grab at the chance to play abroad with a decent team.
Personally he woldn't do any better if he went to Celtic or Rangers
sporting are a bigger club than celtic
