it could be either of them, both are good with both of their teams (club and national). Sure Ronaldo got knocked out but compare his group to Messi's, how would you compare Iran to USA or Bosnia to Germany? Ronaldo has performed well for Madrid but Messi got lazier, just look at la Copa del Rey final, he had one shot (very close) and gave up. Ronaldo at least tries to score or assist but gets frustrated if his team is losing, Messi is used to winning everything.

but to be honest you can't compare a winger to a Centre forward/Attacking Mid, they play how they want to and it works for them and their team

Of course Messi, Ronaldo has a wonderful personal skills, but he is not good at team works, and about messi, he can control the game, he know what to do at anytime.
