It's a laughable result and it shows that their academy is overrated these days (I like Wilson and Pereira though). I dislike Man U as well but I'd be wary in writing them off, simply because of their financial might. The signing of Di Maria could galvanise them as they will be injecting some much needed pace and trickery into the team. Then again I said Kagawa and Mata would make them better too and that hasn't worked thus far - Mata looks like he doesn't fit in and Kagawa has been a marginal figure for two years now.
A Liverpool fan made a fair and balanced comment elsewhere, I feel. He said that while Man United have about five or six very good/world-class players, the drop off in quality after that is massive. Whereas clubs like Man City etc also have that number of world-class players, but the drop off after that isn't as significant i.e. their world-class players are augmented by players who are not world class but are still excellent players, whereas United's world-class players are backed by averageness. On the other hand, I have seen Man United fans say that Mata, Rooney and Persie are closer to their three biggest problems than their three best players right now, as they can't see to get on the same wavelength at all. It goes to show that football isn't played on paper and having great players in attack means nothing if they can't get in sync.
On the plus side, guys like Shaw, Herrera and Di Maria really should become very good players for United. But it's no guarantee. If I was to put my house on it I'd say they will finish 4th, 5th or 6th.
