Even though Italy is somewhat of a joke right now and Germany is going through a good phase,I'd say they're equal.
But I slightly prefer Italy a bit more.A lot my favourite players WERE from there.

I'm a proud Italian, forever Azzurro and a great soccer fan. Thank God Italy has always beaten Germany in all the important tournaments like Fifa Worldcup and European Cup. Everybody has to admit that for some reason the Germans haven't sill found the way to beat Italy. Remember Worldcup Mexico '70 Semifinal (ITA 4 - GER 3) nominated the Match of the Century by FIFA, Worldcup Spain '82 final (ITA 3 - GER 1), Worlcup Germany 2006 Semifinal (ITA 2 - GER 0) once again nominated the Match of the Century by FIFA, Euro 2012 Polland-Ukraine Semifinal (ITA 2 - GER 1). Not to mention all the international friendly matches where Italy has beaten Germany. I don't want to sound as a stupid and proud Italian, but Italy has managed to be Germany's nightmare. Everytime they have played I've been so nervous because the Germans are always strong, always dangerous, always highly competitive and very professional, an incredibly great team indeed.
Now Germany is a four-time world champion, like Italy and continues to be a SUPER TEAM.They are so fearsome now that I hope they don't play against Italy for a long time. LOL!!!!

1. Historically means sweet FA in terms of current ability.
2. Germany had the worst travel schedule, the worst climate conditions and they still won the tournament. Italy could not get out of the group stage.
3. Italy's world cup side in 2006 while good was not spectacular. Most would put the current german side over italy's 2006 and Brazil's 2002 side.
4. The one thing Italy have over the germans is a psychological advantage. Germany have never beaten italy in a tournament match. However considering both nations are now 4-4 in terms of world cups, i think most of the world would put italy and germany level...
