You dont have to be in amazing shape depending on your postion if you run and practice stopping and sprinting without getting too tired you should be fine. That was my problem because I am a long distance runner as well so when I had to continuously stop I was out of breath. Good luck and have fun!
Depends how good of shape you want to be in. You can get in shape in 2 weeks if you really grind, or you can start running now and be in good shape with less grind.
Im a sophomore guy in high school and I play soccer in the winter and spring. Our conditioning starts the first week of January and its not a joke. We run 2 miles then we do suicides until we cant feel our legs. Summer just ended and I haven't ran since May. How long is it going to take me to start getting in soccer shape? when should I start running?
