School - because if the school is not huge on soccer, than there are certainly low players trying out and higher chances for making varsity.
Coach - some coaches already have favorite players and all which take up the squad.
Other players - depends on how well they do at the try out.
You - Try outs are the place where you have to put your best and most effort into. Because they determine if you are a good player and if you go to varsity or JV.
First cuts and everything take about the first week of practices.
Soccer try outs mostly consist of basic things and a lot of running.
If you are going to tryout, make sure you are in shape for it and have ran atleast 2 miles everyday a week before practice. Since the tryouts start tomorrow I don't know if you are ready for them.
At my school this is how tryouts usually go:
Be on time.... than we have an introducing part where we say our name, how long we been playing, any professional background and what position we have played and what position we prefer to play.
After introducing part we usually do 2 mile runs [ whole week of tryouts] thats pretty much 8 laps around the soccer field without stopping. If you stop during the jogg or anything, the coaches will take a note on that and that will be a huge decider.
After the running we get next to each other and dribble across the field. Passing drills, crossing drills, defending drills on how not to stick your foot out when you defend like most people do.
Doing tricks, showing who you are and how much you want to be on that varsity squad. They want to see your max. Shooting drills are the best at our school since they are more like games and everyone has fun. At last of the practice there somethings called "suicides" where you sprint across the field and sprint back. 2 times. If you sit or anything the whole tryout team has to do an extra. So don't think for yourself but think for others as well.
Our school does not have a freshman team and soccer is big part of the school. So Drills are tougher and everything.
My freshman year I only had known football by name and stuff. I went to practice with cleats and everything, but i didn't know anything about the sport. When I tried out I truly found myself on what I was good at. I recommend you that doesn't matter if you know how to play or not. You won't know your true self until you try it out.
just to do something you will not be regret for yourself.
come on!
I am an incoming freshman. Tryouts are from 8-11 and then 1-3 Monday-Friday. Starts tomorrow. I don't want to try out as I know I won't make varsity or jv team because i am not that good. Although I know doing this tryout will improve my odds of making freshman team and those trouts are in 3 weeks, once school starts. What are tryouts usually like? I don't want to go so how long do you think until they announce first cuts? How many other freshman should be there? The varsity coach made it sound like he expected all freshman to be there yet they have separate freshman tryouts
