I agree with Rafael, Carlos Vela is currently the best Mexican player, Herrera had a great world cup, however, he has yet to prove his ability in Porto's midfield by first winning a sport in Porto's starting XI and then becoming a constant midfielder. I would say, that Herrera is probably in the top 6, but Mexico's best. But many things can change in 1 year, who is to say that Herrera won't be Porto's breakout player this season and next year a top club will buy him? Porto did pay about 11 million for him and they obviously plan on selling him in the years to come.

@Rafael: Ribery didn't quit, he was injured and now he retired from the team. Big difference between being injured and retiring versus refusing to play for the team while still in the prime of your life. Apples and oranges my friend, can't compare the motives of the two.



Furthermore, it is his choice to not play and if he doesn't want to play, then so be it. However, not playing for El Tri doesn't give him any credentials for being the best player on El Tri. That being said, being a good player at Real Sociedad doesn't guarantee that he would have been a great fit in El Tri. Look at Hugo Sanchez. In sum, he has done nothing for El Tri to merit being El Tri's best player and thus he has done little for the country of Mexico altogether. Can this change? Of course, but it's up to him. Until then, he is not the best Mexican player. I'll give that honor to the man you listed as runner up, Gio Dos Santos.
