First time soccer tips for complete ignoramus?

If you want to join a professional club and you're over 14 or 15 then it's probably late. But if its just college then you'll do fine as long as you're really good at it.

As for the rules, they're simple. Here are the 17 Laws of Football. : http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/La...

Go through all these 'LAWS' thoroughly and you'll know the game as if you were into the game for years now.

Regarding the training and routines. I don't know much about the routines but I'll tell you about the training. Don't use too much of YouTube. It contains mostly videos of freestyle football which is for outside the field and is just a show-off actually. It kind of ruins the game of a few people. You need to be fast, if you're not then you have to be a really good passer. Short and Long passes. Watch football players when they pass, short or long. Examine their leg and body movements. One thing is for sure, your brain should work 10x faster than normal days. You have to make decisions in less than a second. Pass, dribble then pass, long pass or through ball (key pass, creating a chance for someone on the run towards the goal to score.)

You have to be good in the air, practice your aims on headers, freekicks, penalties, passing and long passes. You can use YouTube for such things but don't try to learn much of the freestyle.

Focus a lot on your body movements, try to keep it in balance at every time. Don't lean much or you'll lose the ball in a split of a second. Even a pass needs a balanced body and some body movements. E.g if you're passing a ball to a player that's a bit far, you do it by normally hitting the ball but moving your leg up till your waist line so it can drag the ball towards the player and is a bit fast, but controlled. To recieve a ball a bit in air, try to get in the air with it and it's easily controlled if it's below your chest.

It's got long enough now, let me know if you need more about it.

If football you mean, train ball handling first dribble.. dribble.. also learn how deliver a good pass and learn how to receive a bad pass. Good luck!

i decided to start playing soccer so i can join a club soccer group in my college. i never played the sport seriously before, so i have no experience. not to mention, i don't know the rules. but i've always had soccer in the back of my mind, wondering when i would try it.

any advice on what should be my first steps to begin playing? should i just get a soccer ball, get youtube vids, and practice at home or nearby parks?

i've been active in the gym, but i know my routine isn't nearly enough for soccer. i've been doing a lot of cardio just to get myself back in shape. i'm open to routines.

so let me know what you think! thanks in advance.
