No, I actually think he's overrated. He never impressed me at Bolton and he clearly looks better than he is due to Mourinho's system. Similar to Terry. It's no surprise that they were all over the place as players before Mourinho came back to Chelsea.
I have watched him play a couple of times, and I have to say that he does perform fairly well, though I wouldn't really call him underrated; Ivanovic on the other hand is.

hes better than all these loser defenders like kompany and and koscielny who look alright vs kevin doyle but get SMASHED in europe year in year out.

I have always rated him. He came straight from a relegation battle to a Champions League win, and didn't look out of place at all. He is quick, strong, good in the air, good on the ball, and reads the game well. Plus he is also very tigerish, as shown by his line clearance the other night: he really wants to win. I think the reason why people still underrate him is because he has often still played second fiddle to John Terry.
