Division III Soccer Preseason Training? Help?

It is impossible to say for sure given the information provided, and of course some of these answers will depend upon your performance during that preseason period. But, as a former Div. III student, I will attempt to touch on some of your questions:

1. Preseason periods usually serve a dual purpose, both as a conditioning period and a time for the coach to make assessments that will factor into his/her final roster decisions, so I would be prepared for the preseason training to be a tryout-type environment.

2. If you were recruited and the coach has already spoken with you about uniforms, that might indicate that you are higher on the slate in terms of making the team.

3. Most sports (especially Div. III) with smaller rosters to begin with travel most/ all players for games, unless budgeting expenses etc. prevent them from doing so for especially far contests. If you make the team, you will probably be included on the travel roster, although the situation depends on the school and athletic department capabilities.

We have news, opinion, video, and photos on the latest stories, recruiting updates, and trending college athletes for all divisions, but lend a special focus to Div. III and smaller programs that you might not get anywhere else! Hope this was helpful.

I got recruited and planning to play college soccer at a small liberal arts college (NCAA Division III) this fall. Next week, there is going to be a preseason training before the season start. Just to tell you who I am, I played high school and a below-average club soccer team. The coach never saw me play but he recruited me because I played outside back and there is a need for an outside back in this college. The preseason roster is around 23 players which includes 11 freshmen. The 11 freshmen varied from several players that play for one of the best club team in the area, some players who played for decent club teams, and a very few players that play only high school soccer. There are also a transfer from community college and a senior (who play soccer in high school, play only baseball in college, and want to join the soccer team his senior year). Last year, the squad has only 16 players in the roster. Now, it has 23 players in the preseason roster. However, the good part is that the coach had already bought me jerseys and shorts to prepare for the season.

Here is a list of questions that I need answers:

(1) Is it likely that preseason training is not a tryout?

(2) So, what is the possibility of me staying on the roster for the regular season? How likely am I going to get cut after making the team as a recruit?

(3) If I do make the regular roster, how likely would I make the traveling roster?
